First you have to decide how much of your time you will be decorating. If you are a one timer, for a really special occasion, you will need specific items. But if you intend to make all the kids and family cakes, you will need some items to keep together. At the end of this post I will give you a few of the supply companies that I use.
- A definite need is an angle knife. This helps smooth the icing on the top and sides of the cake.
- Disposable plastic decorating bags. These are really inexpensive and come in a package of 25.Don't let the name discourage you. You can use these bags over and over again.
- Couplers: You will need 4 or 5 sets so you can use more than one color icing at time.
- Tips. Basic tips come in a set: Wilton has a great starter set.
- A cake pedestal is nice to have. It will give the cake a wonderful presentation. Target always has them. Or look on line for one. No need to be made of Sterling silver......a pretty porcelain or glass one works great.
- Some sprinkles in different colors.
- Theme decorations should be bought at the time of each cake...so if they are candy they will be fresh.
- For adult cakes silk flowers work great...and the presentation is impressive.
I hope this entry is helpful. Any questions, please comment.
