Hi there,
I was sent a recipe today for the most expensive chocolate chip cookies in the world. The story goes: A woman and her daughter was having lunch at Neiman Marcus and for dessert they had cookies. The woman liked them so much, she asked the waitress for the recipe. The waitress politely responded that she couldn't give her the recipe, but for a mere two-fifty it could be hers. So the woman agreed to purchase the recipe. One month later, after reading her credit card statement she realized the store charged her two hundred and fifty dollars for the recipe. She immediately called Neiman Marcus, but they refused to refund her money. The price was correct and no matter how the waitress relayed it to her, the price was firm.
The woman was very upset and set out on a campaign to distribute the cookie recipe to whomever wanted it. No one would have to pay for that recipe again.
OK, now that is one story. I came into possession of this recipe many years ago. I lived in Boston, MA at the time. The store mentioned in that campaign was Jordan Marsh Company. A very nice department store, Downtown Boston. So, no matter who came into possession first, or if it is even the most expensive cookie recipe in the world,I can tell you this. It is expensive to make. But it is worth it. You will not find a better cookie recipe anywhere.
So, I have decided to make these cookies for my Soldier, Sp. Stanhope Nicholas Clay, who is stationed in Iraq. He is certainly worth it.
I am also going to share it with you. And please feel free to give it to as many people as you wish.
The Most expensive cookie in the world. Or at least that is what is said.

These are always a hit!! I love them!
ReplyDeleteHi, I just found your blog through Entrecard. I love baking of all kinds...cookies, donuts, cakes, pies, fudge, candies, ...mmmmm!
ReplyDeleteThis cookie recipe sounds great. I'll have to give it a try sometime.
I'm bookmarking your blog!
I have never heard that story, how funny! How are they compared to tollhouse cookies? I love those!
ReplyDeleteThe story is not true. It is an urban legend. The NEIMAN-MARCUS website has a different cookie recipe and a comment that this story is fake. Various versions of this urban legend have been circulating as chain letters for at least 50 yeras. This recipe is rediculous in that it makes way too many cookies. It should be written with all ingredients quartered, to call for one egg. If you want more cookies, just double the one-egg version. My roommate just made the cookies in this recipe and they are pretty good, though not the best ever. Cooks Illustrated has recipes for much better cookies. Now he has four gallon bags of cookies that will likely dry out before anyone eats them all.
ReplyDeleteHello Anonymous, Thank you for your comment.
ReplyDeleteBut first, I never said it was true. I also said I had recieved the recipe twice from other people. One last October and it was for NM and years ago and it was for Jordan Marsh. I said that it was a story.
I just posted the recipe. I did not make it up myself.
I also mentioned how many cookies it would make(112) and could be halved. I don't know why your friend chose to use the full recipe. That was a choice of his.
And most of all,I don't understand why you sound so angry.
By the way, there is always a Nursing Home or Food Pantry that he could donate the cookies before they went stale.
And as far as better recipes from other sources, I am sure there are. And like anything else, people have different taste. I happen to think that it is a great recipe and sorry you felt you had to respond in this manner.
You know who I am. I don't know who Anonoymous is.
great story!
ReplyDeleteI'll have to make these cookies one day because i love baking!
ReplyDeleteRose, I have tried these once with a recipe from another source...and they tasted FAB! It is almost similar to your recipe, so I bet these were yummmm!
