How to ice a cake without crumbs. It's not crumby anymore!

Hi there,

Today I am going to give you a simple way to eliminate one of the most common cake decorating bloopers with just two easy steps.

Nothing is more frustrating when you are icing the cake and it pulls the crumbs from the cake into the icing, making a very unattractive mess. To stop this from happening gently brush off the crumbs that are loose from around the cake. Now, take about a half-cup of icing and thin it down with a few drops of milk. Cover the cake with this in a thin layer. This will give you a base over the cake. It also fills in the cake so it is smooth.

After you apply the crumb coat to the cake, you need to let it set for a few minutes to let the icing set up. Remember, you are putting icing over this so it is not perfect. Now you may proceed to cover the cake with the regular icing. (*Tip: Use your large size icing tip and large bag to make this step a breeze.) Aetco.com

Using a large spatula, hot or cold water your choice. Smooth the sides of the cakes first, and then with your angle spatula, from the side pull the knife towards you up on onto the top to smooth it out.
