Cake decorating #101 by video. Part 1

I found the first set if videos for you. I haven't really found too many that,in such a short time, really gives good technique, but this one does. It is in three parts. This is the very way that I learned to ice a cake. I now use a wide icer with a pastry bag, but you really need to learn how to ice this way first.

The one tip I would give to you would be for the cake itself. As you see in the video, the woman iced the cake top side up. I do not. I frost bottom side up and rub off the crumbs first. This way you always have a flat top to begin with instead of trying to even it off, which seldom works. And as with my recipes, I have started a list of the lessons Cake Decorating #101 in my side-bar.
I hope you like this one. Let me know.

  2. Why not get yourself a Flip Video camera and do your own videos?

If you're not familiar with them, here is their webstite:

Probably the best prices are on Amazon.com. I snagged one for $30 at my local grocery store of all places. I bought mine mostly for family videos. For my site, I'm still trying to figure out if there is any use for it.

  7. Thank you soooo much for finding those for us (I don't know why i've never looked for frosting videos myself)! I'm horrible at frosting, so those were very, very helpful. I'm not sure I understand about top side up versus bottom side up though.

  9. Hi Teresa, Thanks for your comments. To answer your inquiry about the bottom side up technique. It is simply turning your cake top side down on your decorating plate. So now your bottom of the cake is actually the top. It is nice and even. Then slice through the center. Brush the crumbs off the top and sides. Then continue as directed in the video. Fill the center, place the 2nd layer on the cake and ice top and sided. I will in fact demonstrate this soon in photos at least. And I will do it again when I get the video equipment. I hope this help.
    Hugs
